Training and Learning COBIT – 5

COBIT 5 is the successor of the globally-accepted ISACA framework COBIT 4.1. COBIT stands for Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology and it does exactly that; provides a standard for IT related governance without isolating it. This framework has been drafted keeping in mind the various and varied thought leadership and principles from around the world. Such a global and popular framework has surprisingly not so many experts and the lack of training institutes is evident. This paves way for an excited opportunity for young IT professionals to sink their teeth into this toolset and learn and acquire perhaps the best IT governance and management knowledge from across the world.

ISACA provides 2 online COBITtraining exams and 3 COBIT courses for IT professional without having any prerequisites on their website. They have a one-day introduction seminar for COBIT 5. This workshop lays down the differences between the old COBIT 4.1 and COBIT 5. It also explains and discusses the new integrations in COBIT 5 and what standards have been connected to it. The attendees of this workshop are likely to learn the basics of COBIT 5 and why it is the most accepted IT governance framework in the world.

The COBIT Foundation course is the second step in this training program by ISACA. COBIT foundation level teaches participants about the importance of such a standard in an IT enterprise and how a business can benefit from COBIT. The course is thorough in the foundation level and operates on a ghost company that students can practice and solve case scenarios designed upon this imaginary company. Plenty of examples support and explain this course well in the class.

After taking the COBIT foundation course, students are advised to take the COBIT foundation exam. This exam also has no prerequisites and is designed to test the knowledge of students at the foundation level. Clearing the exam demonstrates that the examinee has a thorough understanding of basic COBIT concepts and how they apply in practical situations.

On to more advanced studies, the Implementing Governance of Enterprise IT course is the next step for professionals aiming to be experts in COBIT 5. This course, as stated by its name, teaches how to implement COBIT and its management techniques to enterprise IT and keep it improving continuously in the future. COBIT 5 also directs how to implement this toolset to different needs and this course has many practice scenarios to aid this.

The Implementing Governance of Enterprise IT exam is the final step in ISACA’s COBIT training. The passing of the foundation course is required before one can attempt this exam and a passing score of 70% determines your result. People who have passed this exam have excellent knowledge of IT management and how to execute them in different environments.

This training program is by no-means all you need to do to master IT enterprise management. This merely provides you with the best understanding you can get of IT governance. Learning from this program and implementing it in reality will make one a true expert in this often overlooked field.
